AI & Synthetic Voice Over Policy

As we move further into the next industrial revolution with the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), we have learned that this affects the voice over world as well. Real voices have been cloned and altered  for newly created projects without the original talent’s knowledge or consent and companies with nefarious practices will continue to exploit voices into the future.

As a voice over talent, it’s my job to protect myself and other voice actors from these practices.

For full transparency, I have a synthetic AI voice over model with Respeecher. If you or your company use or are thinking about using AI voice over, check it out today.

Here are my policies regarding AI Voice Overs. These are non-negotiable.

  • Client expressly agrees not to utilize any portion of the recording or performance of Talent for purposes other than those specified in the initial Agreement between the parties including but not limited to creation of synthetic voices or for machine learning.

  • Specifically, Client shall not utilize any recording or performance of Talent to simulate Talent’s voice or likeness, or to create any synthesized or “digital double” voice or likeness of Talent. â€‹

  • Client specifically agrees not to sell or transfer ownership of all or part of any of the recordings or performance of Talent to any third party without Talent’s knowledge and consent.

  • Client agrees not to enter into any agreements or contracts on behalf of Talent which utilizes all or any part of any of the recordings or performance of Talent without Talent’s knowledge and consent.

  • Client agrees that any recordings or performances stored in digital format will be reasonably stored so that unauthorized third parties may not gain access to the files containing Talent’s voice or likeness, and if such files are stored in “the cloud.” Client agrees to safeguard the same through encryption or other “up-to date” technological means.

Frequently Asked Questions About My AI Policy

AI technology is rapidly evolving, and I believe in protecting both creative integrity and client trust. These FAQs explain my approach to AI voice cloning, data use, and content generation.

Q: Do you allow AI voice cloning or synthesis of your voice?
A: Although I have a synthetic voice replica with Respeecher, my voice cannot be cloned, sampled, or used in any AI model or generative system without my written consent and a separate licensing agreement.

Q: Can clients use your recordings in AI projects?
A: You can use my recordings in AI-related content (such as explainer videos about AI), but not to train or simulate my voice. That distinction protects both of us legally and ethically.

Q: Do you use AI tools in your workflow?
A: I use AI tools responsibly for tasks like file management, research, written content assistance (e.g., brainstorming, content briefs, keyword research, email drafts), and editing efficiency. I will never use AI to replace human performance or authenticity in my recordings.

Q: Why have a separate AI policy?

A: A separate AI policy helps keep expectations clear, protects intellectual property, and ensures that my clients receive genuine, human performances every time.
